The new agreement signed on 11 November in the telecommunications sector has been welcomed by the trade unions. According to CISL general secretary Daniela Fumarola, the deal “strengthens the protection and enhancement of work in a sector that is strategic for Italy’s technological and infrastructural development”. The agreement reached between Asstel, the employers’ association for Italy’s telecommunications sector, and the SLC-Cgil, Fistel-Cisl and Uilcom unions centres on strengthening labour relations to address the sector’s rapid transformation driven by digitalisation and the growing use of artificial intelligence. The deal includes a full overhaul of the job classification system and introduces a dedicated framework for call centre staff. Valid until the end of 2028, the agreement now awaits approval from the sector’s 200,000 employees.
