The European Commission launched, in accordance with the European regulations in terms of state help, a deep study on aids for restructurings, which amount to over 20 million euros, granted to the chemical companies NGP and Simpe by the Italian state. (Ref. 070427)
NGP, a chemical industry company, being in financial trouble, created the Simpe Company and transferred parts of its workforce there. The Italian state supported this operation by giving the newly constituted Simpe Company a restructuring help amounting to over 20 million euros. This help was granted in May 2006 without prior notification to the Commission, as EU competition regulations require it. The notification arrived in July 2006.
