Latvia: ministry of Social Affairs grants prizes to companies that practice gender equality

On November 17th of this year, the Minister of social affairs Dagnija Stake rewarded the company Rimi Latvia, a supermarket chain, for its gender equality policy. The insurance firm Balta and GE Money Bank received the second and third prizes. These rewards were granted on the basis of inquiries led by independent experts on the personnel of a panel of firms. This valuable distribution is part of a plan partially financed by the European social Fund, which also consisted of information campaigns. To establish the ranking of these “egalitarian” firms, independent experts surveyed the staff of participating firms. During these inquiries, the employees could express their point of view on employers’ attitude towards employees, men and women, as regards the perspective of careers, the access to training and solutions brought to personal situations.
