The manufacturer of Danish toys announced, Tuesday June 20, the relocation of a great part of its production to Eastern Europe and Mexico. This is the last stage of a reorganization plan launched in 2004 in order to exit a historical crisis. Lego, which employed 8300 people throughout in the world in 2003, will have only 3000 employees after this reorganization. (Ref. 06649)

Jørgen Vig Knudstrup, the director of Lego, announced the dismissal of 900 of the 1200 employees of the Billund factory, in Western Denmark, which will take place between 2007 and 2010. The Billund site will continue to produce the ranges Lego Technique and Bionicle, but the production of the range Lego System will be transferred towards the factories of its subcontractor Flextronics, in Eastern Europe. Lego will also close its factory of Enfield, in the United States, which employs 300 people
