Lithuania: trade unions oppose government’s plans to invite workers from non-European countries

Lithuanian trade unions categorically oppose the government's plans to call on employees from third countries. This plan aims at compensating the labor shortages due to the massive emigration of Lithuanian workers abroad. (Ref. 070043)

Trade unions are firmly opposed to a governmental plan to reduce labor shortages in Lithuania by attracting workers from non-EU countries. According to the confederation of trade unions (LPSK), this policy could limit salary increases and reduce career opportunities for emigrant Lithuanian workers who wish to come back home.
