Morocco: employees now covered if they lose their job

After 12 years of negotiations between the CGEM (confederation of Moroccan employers), trade unions and the CNSS (national social security fund), compensation for job loss (IPE) will come into force in Morocco on 1 December. Any employee who loses their job “involuntarily”, having worked 780 recorded days over 36 months, of which 260 were in the first year, will be able to claim this compensation. The IPE is equal to 70% of the average salary received in the first 36 months, but cannot be above the minimum wage (2350 Moroccan Dirhams per month, around 209 euros). This will be paid every month, for a maximum of six months after the job loss. During this period, the beneficiary will keep their right to medical cover (AMO).

Individuals who are eligible for this aid will have to go to a CNSS agency no later than two months after losing their job. They must then sign up with the ANAPEC (national agency promoting jobs and skills), while actively looking for a new job. As well as this financial aid, they will receive support from the ANAPEC.

The compensation is funded by a 0.57% salary contribution (limited to 6000 Dirhams), two thirds of which are covered by the company, the rest is the employee’s responsibility. So t
