Morocco: unemployment benefit in 2014

Morocco will introduce an unemployment benefit in 2014.  This measure should limit precariousness for employees and therefore improve the fluidity and quality of the labor market.  But its benefits will be subject to rather restrictive regulations given the current state of the Moroccan labor market.  Finally, this measure was adopted after 10 years of debates between unions and employers.  (Ref.  130515)

Award conditions. Recipients will have to meet certain criteria. The allowance will be limited to employees who have lost their job “involuntarily.” Besides, they will have to have paid social contributions for 780 days, including 216 days the last year before losing their job.

As far as the financial modalities are concerned, the jobseeker will receive 70 percent of his average salary in the past 36 months, limited to the amount of minimum wage. The benefits will be paid for 6 months during
