High youth unemployment and precarious employment make a cocktail for social uneasiness. In 2008, the unemployment rate for the 20-29 age group was 30% in Tunisia, 21.5% in Algeria and 17.6% in Morocco (sources: Central Bank/IMF). In Morocco, one third of the population is aged 15 to 34. To unemployment figures needs to be added the precariousness of odd jobs, very common in Morocco. Thus, according to a study by the World Bank in 2006, the number of vulnerable jobs in the Moroccan kingdom peaked at 47% of all jobs, more than twice the number in Egypt (20%!). These figures report many cast-offs and many parts of society that remain unsatisfied.
