Nestlé: a social plan for Dutch workers affected by a relocation

The Swiss group Nestle, which decided to close a plant in the Netherlands as part of a relocation in the Czech Republic and in Ukraine, introduced a job saving plan to Dutch employees. The main labour union thinks it is "satisfactory". (Ref 06902)

A Dutch plant of Nestlé has been threatened with an industrial strike since April. In this production unit of chocolate bars, 85 jobs will be cut, with the final closing announced by Nestlé for July 2007. The group decided to relocate its production in the Czech Republic and in Ukraine. After months of prevarications, linked to fruitless negotiations on a possible takeover of the plant by Plain Vanilla, a Dutch group, a job-saving plan was introduced on September 8th.
