Netherlands: a new trade union for flight attendants

On July 26, the Trade union of Dutch flight attendants (UNC) was born on a joint initiative of three airline companies' employees, Transavia, Martinair and KLM Cityhopper. The UNC is supported by De Unie, the main independent trade union of executives. Its aim is to better defend the interests of small companies' employees compared to its sister, the Association of Dutch flight attendants (VNC) suspected of privileging the interests of KLM's workers. Gathering 500 members, the UNC represents a dissenting branch of Dutch flight attendants Association (VNC), another independent trade union. “The structure of the VNC counts 8 KLM representatives and 3 staff representatives from Transavia, Martinair and KLM Cityhopper, it was difficult for them to pass their point of view”, explains Swen Laarveld, an official of UNC.
