Deputies from the Christian Democrat Call (CDA), in power, proposed on December 7, 2007, the introduction of a tax-exempt bonus to encourage employees work at home. The goal is to reduce traffic in a country where the road network is glutted, which causes the loss of 44 million of working hours a year. “Now, everyone will have to make sure to stay at home at least one day a week”, explained the Christian Democrat deputy Van Hijum. The goal of what could become the first “anti-jam bonus” in Europe consists in fighting against traffic-jam, an endemic curse in a country which is too small for its car fleet. The engorgement of the road network caused about 10 million workers to lose about 44 million hours a year. Most of them live in a city but work in another.
