Netherlands: campaign to recruit women in the metal industry

For the moment, only 18,800 women work in the metal industry in the Netherlands, i.e. 13% of the sector’s staff, according to the Federation of Dutch Trade Unions (FNV).  The “Annual Metal Workwoman’s Day” (Femme Tech Dag), launched on November 3 in Zeist, aims to change this.  It was organized by three partners, including the two major vocational training funds in the sector.  The first, the Fund for the Development and Training of Metalworking (Opleidings en Ontwikkelingsfonds voor de Metaalbewerking, OOM) gathers 15,000 businesses for a total of 145,000 employees.  The Fund for the Development and Training of Technical Installation Firms (Opleidings en ontwikkelingsfonds voor het Technisch InstallatieBedrijf, OTIS) gathers 10,000 businesses and 136,000 employees.  As for the Techniek.Talent.nu office, it represents 8 technological employers’ organizations.  Its mission is to promote technical professions among young people.
