Netherlands : strike in the public transportation system of the four biggest cities

Buses, subways and trolley cars of the four biggest cities of the country, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague, did not run between 9 and 16 o'clock, on November 15th, 2006. Trade unions protest against the privatization of the local and regional transport companies and try to negotiate employment guarantees for the personnel taken back by private companies. The strike was launched by two trade unions affiliated to the Confederation of Dutch trade unions (FNV): Abvakabo (civil servants) and FNV and Allies (industry). They are protesting against the privatization of the local and regional transportation companies, made obligatory before 2008 by the Parliament.
