Netherlands: trade unions want employers to pay for unemployment allowance

These proposals were welcomed by the Christian democratic party (CDA, in power) and the Party for work and progress (PVDA, opposition), which will probably form the next coalition of government after the legislative elections of next 22 November.  Employers' organizations are against it. The Confederation of industry and employers of Netherlands (VNO-NCW) is ready to discuss this project only if the law on dismissals is softened. As for the Federation of employers of small and medium undertakings (MKB), it firmly rejects a measure which it says would  penalize too heavily the profitability of companies.
