Union cooperation in Nordea has contributed to a new union for employees of the group’s Polish subsidiary, who had up until now been only lightly unionized. The underlying objective is to negotiate a collective agreement for the subsidiary and to include Polish union representatives in Nordea’s transnational coordinated union that negotiates directly with Nordea group management. According to experts and unions, this cross-border union collaboration ‘shows the way’ to halt the social dumping associated with the sector’s offshoring activities.
Last Spring, employees in Nordea Group’s Polish subsidiary, Nordea Operation Centre (NOC), coordinated with four Nordic unions in the sector in order to leave the Polish union Solidarność that represented 13% of the personnel and instead follow the Scandinavian model. The resulting Union of NOC and Nordea IT Employees was officially recognized by the Polish authorities in December 2014. As well as negotiating collective agreements with local management, the union is part of Nordea Union Board.
