How do you develop the skills needed for tomorrow, to ensure the long-term competitiveness of your country? The Polish government has sought to address this question by launching a pilot project – dubbed ‘school for innovators’ – which aims to provide training to students on innovation-focused skills, from as young as primary school age. Some 20 schools have been selected to trial new forms of teaching and foster the culture of innovation.
Launched by Poland’s ministries for development and national education, the ‘school for innovators’ project seeks to train students, from their adolescence, to develop innovation skills. Following a call for proposals, 402 schools applied to the programme, but only 20 were selected to trial new forms of teaching. The main selection criterion was the motivation of the teams of educators to drive change.
