Despite the Labor Minister, Elzbieta Rafalska’s autumn 2017 declarations that “there will not be a revolution within the Labor Code’, the 2018 reforms will overhaul several important legal provisions. From amongst these are provisions addressing equal treatment and discrimination, prevention of moral harassment, redefinition of independent work, reformation of employment contracts and paid leave.
Poland’s government has handed the task of reforming the Labor Code to the 16-member Committee of Codification that includes university professors, and representatives from both trade unions and the employers’ bodies. The reforms come under the ‘Flexicurity’ banner and according to committee member Jacek Miecina and also former member of the employers’ body, Lewiatan, “The new labor law should give employees more protection and should also be more flexible for employers.”
