Poland : new tripartite Council looks to breathe new life into national social dialogue

The Law on the independent Council of Social Dialogue will come into force on September 11. The Council will replace Tripartite Commission for Social and Economic Affairs and is the result of union initiative, work with the employers, and later on with the government. One of its first tasks will be to deliver its opinion the 2016 draft State budget.

The implementation of the Law on Council of Social Dialogue formally ends the life of the Tripartite Commission, which has not come together since 26 June 2013 after unions disappointed with the lacklustre dialogue suspended their participation. As result since then national social dialogue barely exists. The new council comprises the major trade unions, employers’ organizations, and the Government with each party having the same rights.
