Poland : Parliament passed two amendments in the Polish labour law

Prolonging of maternity leaves. Second amendment includes prolonging of  maternity leaves. At present it is 16 weeks at the first childbirth, 18 month at every other birth and 26 months in case of a multiple birth. The amendment adds another two weeks to each of these periods. It is not much comparing to  the bills presented by  various groups of MPs, proposing between 26 weeks as a shortest maternity leave and 52 weeks at multiple birth in case of second or another birth. Another bill was intended to enhance protection against dismissals for mothers:  the employer could not dismiss them in the period of 2,5 years after the end of maternity leave. This proposal was however rejected.
