The national Labor Inspectorate presented to the National Assembly, at the end of April, an evaluation on the prevention of risks concerning asbestos at work. This evaluation sheds light on the increasing number of occupational diseases related to asbestos, evaluates the controls carried out in the companies and includes some proposals as to how to fight against infringements to the legislation. Asbestos was prohibited by law in Poland in
1997. given the time diseases due to asbestos take to develop, the evaluation outlines
that many occupational diseases caused by asbestos at work has been increasing in the
recent years. In 2005 for instance, the number of cancer patients –
mesothelioma and lung cancer in particular – has been multiplied by 4.75.
