Poland : Trade union membership is constantly rising

For the first time since 1990, trade unions are noticing a significant and constant increase in membership. Trade unions are establishing sections in firms where, a few years ago, their presence was still unthinkable: supermarkets and foreign companies for example. (Ref. 061015)

Nowadays, the OPZZ, the biggest trade union, has 850 000 members. “Solidarity” has 760.000. In 2005, Solidarity reported 16 000 new members, up from 6 000 new members in 2003. « And, for 2006, estimates are even more optimistic! » according to union leaders. The same thing goes for OPZZ.
