Portugal: CGTP union mobilizes against austerity

The General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP) is calling for a day of struggle and a gathering on September 29 in Lisbon against austerity. Independent, unorganized movements have called for demonstrations throughout the country on Saturday, September 15. (Ref. 120528)

Union demonstrations. The CGTP (close to the communist party) is calling for a major gathering in Lisbon on September 29. The union believes that the new measures the government announced to carry the country’s economic recovery through are an assault against workers and their families. The federations is maintaining all its protest actions:

  • On September 15 to defend collective negotiations;
  • On October 1, a day of action with strikes and demonstrations;
