Portugal: shipyard staff gives summer holidays up to face production peak

Flexibility.  The Workers’ Committee (CT) of the Viana do Castelo shipyard (ENVC) signed the company agreement maintaining production for August 2012.  Usually, the shipyards are closed for two weeks during the summer.  The holidays will be divided in two: one week in early June and one week for Christmas.  Leaves or recovery periods will be possible between June and August – there may be exceptions.  The CT wanted to show workers’ flexibility as they are dreading layoffs in the framework of the coming privatization for this company which became national 37 years ago.
