Romania: bargaining for mimimum wage increase

Possible increase from RON 670 up to RON 700.  On Tuesday, the center-right government told unions and employers that it was going to look into the possibility of increasing monthly minimum wage in 2012, from RON 670 currently (€153) up to RON 700 (€162).  The government said it couldn’t do better “because of a lack of budget funds.”  Two weeks ago, the Romanian Finance Minister already said that the government was going to negotiate that same increase with the IMF, which is closely monitoring the Romanian economy within the framework of the preventive agreement the country signed with the Fund last spring.
