Spain: coming into force of the new regulation on asbestos

On October 11th, the new regulation on asbestos (royal Decree 396/2006 of March 31st, 2006) took effect. They establish the minimal security measures applicable to workers incurring risks of exposure to asbestos. On this occasion, the trade union CCOO reminded of the difficult situation of victims and introduced a series of proposals. (Ref. 061013)

The decree 396/2006. The new regulation establishes general security norms to accomplish jobs for which workers can be exposed to asbestos fibers. The previous regulation was passed in 1984, so the new one aims at applying the principles of prevention worked out since (responsibilities of the employer and employees).
