The National Court’s social chamber canceled the mass layoff plan presented in January by Coca Cola Iberian Partners and implemented in April because workers weren’t properly informed about the merger procedure, in 2013, of the 7 bottling plants into a single one which, in the long run, should have led to a staffing reduction. This plan led to a strike and boycott campaign against Coca Cola in Spain. Because of the court’s ruling, the 821 people laid off have to be reinstated.
Employees didn’t receive enough information regarding the merger process. On June 13, the National Court gave satisfaction to the CCOO, UGT and CSIF unions, considering that the company didn’t properly conduct the merger because of which the 7 bottling companies working for Coca Cola in Spain merged to create Coca Cola Iberian Partners (CCIP) in February 2013.
