Spain: much more contracts become permanent due to the labor market reform

Since the entry into force of the new industrial legislation on July 1, the Ministry of Labour has reported the conversion of 80.000 fixed-term contracts into permanent contracts. The reform, which is the result of an agreement between the socialist government and social partners, contains a series of measures intended to encourage companies to convert temporary contracts into stable ones. This conversion process is going well, according to the figures given by the Ministry of Labour: since the entry into force pursuant to the new legislation, an average of 6000 fixed-term contracts per day were converted into permanent ones. On the whole, during the first two weeks, 84.000 precarious contracts disappeared and became stable contracts. Compared to the situation before the reform, the conversion rate has doubled.
