On 22 March, the Spanish government presented an array of 50 measures to simplify the process of returning to the country, for those who have emigrated abroad. The measures seek, amongst other things, to accelerate procedures to certify experience gained abroad, to help returnees look for jobs, to facilitate contact with companies, as well as to introduce grants and supports for those who want to set up their own company.
Spain’s council of ministers has approved a plan to bring back those who have emigrated from the country, setting a target of 23,000 returnees by 2020. Approved on 22 March, the programme dubbed ‘a country to return to’, will be supported by 24 million euros of funding over a period of two years. It represents the first phase of a wider project which seeks to help all those that have left Spain since the start of the crisis in 2008, according to government spokesperson Isabel Celaá.
