Spain: Renault’s management and unions signed the new firm agreement in effect until 2009

The new agreement, signed on January 31 between the management of Renault Spain and majority unions (UGT, CCOO, and the executives' Confederation) is planning the departure, spread on three years, of 2,100 aged workers, 1,100 with an incentive to voluntary leave scheme, and 1,100 with a "relieve contract". This agreement has an effect on the Valladolid, Palencia, Madrid, and Seville sites, even though some modalities are reserved to the two centers of Valladolid and Palencia, particularly affected by the auto constructor's decrease in production. One of the agreement’s main novelties is the introduction of a derogatory clause to the metal sector’s agreement in principle, which the automobile sector depends on, so that Renault’s own agreement can prevail until 2009 during the arbitrations within the firm, even if the sector gets to sign agreements that are more profitable until then.
