Spain : the government plans to grant unemployment benefits to self-employed workers

The new law envisages to grant temporary subsidies to self-employed workers who are out of work. But the government lays down two conditions: this category will have to be mostly favourable to the creation of the system and it will be completely financed via their social security contributions. The statute of self-employed workers, on which the government and social players have agreed, will be on the table of the Council of Ministers next September. This text extends certain social guarantees for the three million workers who belong to this category. The text notably recognizes the right to early retirement for self-employed workers who have a dangerous activity or are exposed to toxic risks.
