“Vi ökar igen!” “We are still developing” enthused Eva Nordmark –TCO (Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees) President, on February 16, when she announced a 3% rise in membership numbers for 2014. The rise is all the more surprising given that a third of employees choose not to join a union. TCO may now be able to exert a similar level of influence on political and economic decisions as the traditionally considered major Swedish union, the LO (Swedish Trade Union Confederation)
The TCO continues to advance. For the fourth year in a row the TCO confederation has increased its membership: 2011 (0.7%), 2012 (3.6%), 2013 (3.1%), and 2014 (3.0%). “Our 14 member unions have increased new affiliates by 37, 799, which is equivalent to the entire population of Lidköping”, indicated the President, Eva Nordmark.
