Two major global trade unions (ICFTU and WCL) unite to create the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), gathering 180 million members

The ICFTU and the WCL were dissolved in Vienna on October 31st. They will unite with non-affiliated trade unions, including the French CGT, to create the ITUC. The foundation congress will take place between 1 and 3 November 2006. This union ends a 60 year-old competition. (Ref. 061081)

About 1500 representatives of 400 trade union organizations, gathering about 180 million members, will meet in Vienna on October 31st to write a page of the history of worldwide trade unionism. On Tuesday, October 31st, 2006, ICFTU and WCL will undertake their dissolution.
