The UK government announced on 27 May that businesses will be able to claim £1,000 for each T-Level student that they host for a placement. The T-Level qualification, which is the equivalent of three A Levels and has been co-created with more than 250 employers (see article n°10395), includes a so-called “industry placement” consisting of 45 days (or 315 hours) with an employer. With this cash boost for businesses hosting T-Level students, the government hopes to give new impetus to this scheme, which it has wanted to promote for several years but has been halted somewhat by the Covid-19 pandemic and its implications in terms of safety and finances.
“This temporary cash boost will help even more employers to experience the benefits, while also providing young people with invaluable first-hand experience in the workplace,” according to Gillian Keegan, UK Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills, who was commenting on this new measure.
