United States: Facebook makes remote working a company-wide policy for its 60,000 employees

In an internal memo, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that from 15 June all staff will be able to work from home, if their job allows it and if their manager gives the green light. He added that he himself would probably spend half of his time at home in 2022. HR managers could potentially lower the remuneration level of those choosing to leave San Francisco for a lower cost of living elsewhere.

A potential pay cut. Facebook’s work organization strategy has evolved. As recently as a year ago, in May 2020, only certain employees, primarily senior managers, could choose to work remotely on a permanent basis. However the remote working experiment proved successful. “We’ve learned over the past year that good work can get done anywhere, and I’m even more optimistic that remote work at scale is possible, particularly as remote video presence and virtual reality continue to improve,” Zuckerb
