Volkswagen: European Commission promises financial support to the Belgian employees affected by the restructuring

According to EurActiv, further to the announcement by VW management of a vast restructuring plan affecting the Belgian site, Social affairs Commissioner Vladimir Spidla, and Regional policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner announced financial support for the Belgian employees, coming from the European social Fund. The announcement by the car manufacturer of a restructuring aimed at maintaining the firm’s competitiveness in the global context, led to a strike of the Belgian site’s employees, even if the constructor assured that the site was going to be supported (see our story n ° 061167). 4000 employees of the Forest plant, in Belgium, are threatened by this restructuring.
