Volkswagen: part of the production of the Spanish site of Landaben will be transferred to Brussels

According to the weekly magazine Der Spiegel, the German management of Volkswagen decided to transfer part of the production of its Polo model from the factory of Landaben, close to Pampelune (northern Spain) to Belgium. This is additional pressure on Spanish trade unions which have been negotiating for 18 months an agreement on a new pay scale. (Ref. 06680)

According to a spokesman of the group, the transfer to Brussels would be effective at the end of summer, and would involve the manufacturing of 200 vehicles per day. The information published by the German weekly magazine Der Spiegel indicates that several thousand jobs could be threatened by more important transfers of production, also to Brussels.
