In H1 2016, Carrefour-China sales dropped by 13% to €2.71 billion. The group plans to open up to 50 convenience stores in Shanghai this year and is launching online operations in Chengdu, in the wake of Beijing and Shanghai. Carrefour has no Chinese partner unlike Tesco (with CRE) and Auchan (with Ruentex). Georges Plassat aims to reduce Carrefour’s dependence on large hypermarkets (which account for 50% of sales) in favour of smaller convenience stores.
