According to Italian retail expert Mario Sassi in Milan, the Seattle-based company is considering taking a majority stake in Spanish retailer Mercadona.
With 1,640 supermarkets generating sales of €26.93 billion in 2020 (up 5.5% on a comparable basis), Mercadona is the number one food retailer in Spain with a 25% market share.
