In Europe, the consolidation move continues amongst supermarkets. On August 3, Auchan Retail announced the purchase of 489 Dia stores (Minipreço and Mais Perto banners) plus 3 warehouses in Portugal for €155 million. The deal should be completed by Q1 2024, after agreement from the local competition authority. Auchan will thus grow from 70 stores (35 mini-markets, 4 supermarkets and 31 hypermarkets) to 559 local units, whereas Jeronimo Martins has 555. In H1 2023, the Dia group’s net sales...
