Casino, owner of the hard-discount retailer Leader Price since 1997 is intending to sell the French network of 700 discount stores to Aldi as part of drastic debt reduction plans. The deal would amount to €750 million but the final agreement has not yet been signed. Leader Price (sales of €2.5 billion in 2018, a fall of -0.5% like-for-like) is facing trading difficulties due to poorly located stores and unclear market positioning compared with its German rivals.
