Eager to “support peace,” the British Co-op announced on June 24 that it would stop buying from 17 countries, effective at the end of the June. The cooperative (turnover 2024 : €13.3 billion, stable after a 1.7% decline in 2023) is ending sourcing from Israel, Iran, Russia and Syria, among others. The retailer of 2,348 stores quotes “internationally recognised” violations of human rights and international law that prevents trading with these countries.
