Wood is the first material used by Ikea for the conception of its products. However, to bind the wood fibres that create the wardrobe or shelves displayed in the stores, the group used a fossil-based glue that is responsible for 5% of its global carbon footprint. Almost half of the emissions from wood fibre panels come from the glue used, the other half from transport, energy, forestry etc.
