Ikea's new CSR commitment? A corn-based glue. While the group has been using a fossil-based glue responsible for 5% of its overall carbon footprint for 60 years, it has announced that it will reduce its use by 40% in favour of a biosourced glue.
Wood is the first material used by Ikea for the conception of its products. However, to bind the wood fibres that create the wardrobe or shelves displayed in the stores, the group used a fossil-based glue that is responsible for 5% of its global carbon footprint.
