The Japanese retailer Don Quijote Holdings Co. has expressed interest in the Wal-Mart Inc’s Seiyu supermarket unit although there is no formal sale process. With this announcement, and sales of US$9 billion in 2018, Don Quijote Holdings Co. joins the ranks of the country’s retail heavyweights, such as Aeon or Uniqlo.
This discounter continues to challenge expected retail standards in Japan with its cluttered and chaotic stores, selling everything from faux leopard-skin rugs to designer watches.
