Both in the U.S.A. and Europe, retailers’ digital marketplaces are multiplying. Macy’s department stores announced the launch of a marketplace in the second half of 2022, joining Hudson’s Bay (launch in 2021) and fashion brands such as J.Crew, Express and Lands’ End. These include grocery giants such as Kroger and Walmart, whose marketplace opened in 2009. For all these players, the challenge is to make the marketplace offer invisible to the consumer, while directing a customer experience.
