’s government has made a huge step in April 2017 to unify its Goods and Service Tax (or GST, a VAT equivalent) with one single tax system across all states, which replaces 17 indirect tax levies.
Retailers in general have welcomed this possible reform, which would have five levels (5%, 12%, 18%, 28% and 40%) with a 5% rate for fashion retailers. A first test could start in May. If 15 of the 29 States ratify the agreement, it will go into effect, easing business conditions for retailers...
