The 17 Belgian stores of Metro and Makro are for sale. Whilst takeover candidates are emerging for the D.I.Y. and wholesale food sectors, the fashion side of Makro is more difficult.
This type of dismembered is new for hypermarkets. In Belgium, the fate of Metro (11 cash & carry stores) and Makro (6 very large hypermarkets of 10,000 to 20,000 m2 of sales area, total turnover of €500 million/year) will be sealed on the 14th January, representing 2,000 jobs.
