Austria: Confederation of Austrian trade unions introduces the outlines of its reform

After a big opinion poll which attracted only 60000 of the 1.3 million followers of the Confederation of Austrian trade unions (ÖGB), the latter has just introduced the first outlines of its reform. The synthesis of preparatory works will be officially introduced on December 14th. The money question remains problematic. (Ref 061208)

Last week, the ÖGB introduced the synthesis of commission works on the “new ÖGB”, the process of renovation and reform of the Confederation, launched last September. This synthesis will act as foundation to write the draft reform that ÖGB’s steering committee intends to introduce to the federal congress, on January 22nd, 2007. The main points are as follows:

  • A quota of women for all the upper authorities of the ÖGB.
  • The establishment of a salary ceiling of 5800 euros for trade union civil serv
