After having assembled 10,000 in Brussels on March 11, the common union front is looking to to keep up the pressure on the government that has recently modified an agreement with the social partners over early retirement. A series of actions has been announced for the whole month of March to protest the freezing of the inflation linked wage index, underfinancing of public services and non-respect of social consultation.
The ‘activist assembly’ organized in Brussels on Wednesday March 11 was deemed a success with some 10,000 answering the union call to assemble. For the three Belgian unions the FGTB (Socialist), the CSC (Christian) and the CGSLB (Liberal) it was a question of ‘putting the Government under pressure’ and protesting the reforms to early retirement as well as the freeze on the inflation linked wage index.
