The trade union of the Czech subsidiary which produces rail vehicles for Siemens, Kolejova vozidla, decided to launch a two-hour warning strike on August 20, as part of the negotiations which followed the announcement, on July 23, 2008, of the closure of the Praguish site. The union also denounced a breach of the Community law on the information and consultation of the European Commission and thinks that the Czech employees were sacrificed in favor of German jobs. On July 23, Siemens announced, as part of its restructuring plan which plans 17.000 job cuts worldwide (see our article No. 080573), that it intended to sell the Prague-Zličín site of its Siemens Kolejova vozidla (SKV) subsidiary – the national leader in the production of rail vehicles – by September 30, 2009 or to shut the site down if there are no buyers. 1.000 jobs are on the hotseat.
